In his presence is fullness of joy, at his right hand are pleasures evermore, Psalm 16:11. This was one of my first memory verses full of hope and peace when I declare it loud! Being in His presence is where we need to be, this is is a huge part of our spiritual fitness.
I am taking an Emotionally Healthy Spirituality class, 2:30pm on Tuesdays at Christ Church Vero Beach, where Peter Scazzero writes "its impossible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. And that is where most of us are." He says we need "beneath the surface transformation, spiritually and emotionally. There is more pretending among Christians than honesty and vulnerability. But once we allow God access to help us let go of the past, of power and control then truly changed people can change the world!"
Peter and other counselors have reminded me of the importance of just being with God. This is a time apart from our devotional and our Bible reading, sitting for a few minutes very still, silent. First inviting God in and then waiting for Him, listening for Him. It was very difficult at first but is becoming easier and I finding I cannot wait for my few times during the day when I can just BE with the Lord-no Bible reading- nothing else but just sit with Him. We are called human beings for a reason, yet most of us seem to look more like human doings with all the things we want to do for God, or all of the volunteer or service projects aside from working all day! But it is in the quiet, still moments where he will speak and transform our hearts.
God wants to be the one we turn to instead of a drink or a drug. God has given us his Holy Spirit to lift us up and give us that built in best friend high! We just need to come to him~
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light". Matthew 11:28-30. Remember the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives inside of us as believers and followers of Christ, available at any time to provide help, encouragement and peace!
Psalm 30:1-I will extol and praise You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up!
Lord help us to just be with you a few minutes a few times today and I allow you to freely fill me and lead me to peace, health and wholeness in Jesus name!
